After using quickbooks pro it seems to work great, i am moving from home to a store and will need a register and am looking to get a register that has quickbooks compatibility

I did some searches but it keeps bringing up quickbooks cash register plus, however i did manage to fine Royal & Sharp but the amazon reviews made me think twice about it

Anybody using a register that works well with quickbooks, my main purpose is for service based sales and a few laptop sales but mainly services

I would say any USB cash register should work they are basically just serial cash registers with usb -> serial adapters built in, which should work with almost any software

Not quite, a register would have to have some software to interface with quick books accounting, even if the royal or sharp registers do so you will probably hit a dead end in a few years when you have to upgrade quickbooks and royal or sharp have never updated the software for your particular register

On the flipside pretty much any usb cash drawer. (Not REGISTER) will work with qb cash register plus or qb point of sale

i was GOING to get the cash drawer but apparently you need the printer as well or it wont auto open, you have to use the key

i dont need the printer since i print out the detailed invoices for customers

hmm i am in a predicament

QB has a button to open the cash drawer....

Leave the key in like we do. If you are going to use QB Pro like we do, there is no reason to go through the hassle of setting up a cash draw and make QB function like a POS system. QB is not a POS system but will work effectively in a low volume situation. In other words, if you have a queue forming in your place of business, you don't want to use QB as a POS system.

the cash drawers connect to the printer and the printer connects to the pc so the button will only work if you have the printer as far as i know

i would rather not leave the key in the drawer as its not safe

i looked at POS systems but qb is great because i can put down so much information about the customer and email them estimates and invoices

i have not found a pos system that does that

im sorry, i meant to write a cash drawer, not register.

We just got a manual cash drawer. It has a button on the front to open it, no electronics required and is 100% compatible with anything! Also has a key so you can lock it at the end of the day... Fact is, no cash drawer is safe unless its perpetually locked up...

We got one of these:

works great... did have to tighten the latch mechanism a bit, but was no problem... Think it was a bit cheaper when we bought it though....

well i wanted something that would ONLY open when making a sale because of theft from the employee that is at the register

if its manual they can open it all willy nilly

i found a company that sells a serial drawer that used a serial to usb converter and then remote access to your pc and change some settings prob a virtual receipt printer or something and then quickbooks pos will open it

i am using quickbooks accounting since i can provide customers with detailed receipts but will prob get quickbooks pos 9 so that i can ring up the sale and use the drawer

either that or buy a usb drawer and figure out how to configure it myself

hmm decisions decisions

they want $200 so its not terribly bad
