Employee monitoring software

I have a customer who would like to monitor an employee. The only programs I have found have are
linked to the cloud, where you go to look at what the employee has been doing.

I like one that records everything the employee does in a video and can be fast forwarded etc.
The only issue I have is that it is also cloud based.

Is there any monitoring software that anyone has used and can recommend?

Thanks

Check with a local lawyer about this. While businesses have the ability to do this many States require an AUP, Acceptable Use Policy, which has been reviewed and signed by all employees prior to installing any monitoring software. Beyond that most OS's have a pretty robust built in system of logging so you can just review that depending on the situation.

It's cheaper and easier to limit the user's activity.

I don't want to make any assumptions on the situation, but you may be able to solve the client's problem instead of directly supplying his/her request - the client may just want his/her employees to stop wasting time or refrain from looking at materials inappropriate for the work environment.

Most employers just use a custom firewall to limit internet browsing, and combine it with GPO's, security permissions, and/or a limited user profile to prevent messing with files they shouldn't have access to.

This could potentially solve your client's problem in a cost effective manner without getting contracts or lawyers involved. Plus, your client probably doesn't want to scroll through several hundred hours of video each week.

I've used spector in the past, but not since they've been bought out by veriato: http://www.veriato.com/

We use ubiquiti cameras in the shop for monitoring customers at the front door etc. The mini cameras have audio too and one day it caught my end of a very bad phone call... ended up saving me a lot of egg on my face as my version of events were supported by the audio from the camera... now thinking of adding plenty more. They are also motion sensitive, so all you do is scroll through the times where there was motion.

You could also prevent bad behavior with Open DNS settings or by using an untangle box to prevent bad traffic.

edit ... but this doesn't help it if the person is doing something on their phones (i.e., 3G / LTE)... that is a real issue for a lot of my clients. Lots of time waste there.
