Hi boys and girls;

I'm gettin' in some last minute revision/study in before I take my exam later. Any last minute tips from people who have already done it ?

What to expect type of thing ?

Much obliged;

Tim

If you don't know the answer, mark it & come back to it for review. Don't waste time dwelling on a question just because it's phrased in an unusual way.

When you go back to review the marked questions, read them & if you're still not sure, leave them marked. Come back to them later. Repeat this until you've all of them answered.

Just stay calm throughout, there's plenty of time to get it all finished.

Good luck.

When in doubt, guess: A..C..D..C

Look @ my avatar :P I'm not into Rock Music .. A C D C will bring me bad luck.

Thanks @Eddie. I've learnt over the last few exams to use every single minute that you have; to read the question @ least twice; and to use the 'Mark for Review' feature.

For the trickier ones, I try and nail it down to 50/50; and then ask "What Would Jesus Do?"

Tim, please let us know how it went...I'm planning on taking it in the next few months myself. :)

No worries.. From all the practise questions I've done (2000+) it seems there is quite a bit to do with AD, GPO's, effective permissions etc.

Something I can honestly say I've had SFA experience with :o

Have a look through examforum.co.uk.

Quite a few people have posted there experiences on most IT/Tech exams.

The real exam is always easier than the practice exams Methical!

I was considering taking the 270 I studied the 270 material to take the 271-272.

I did not study AT ALL for the 272 just got tired of studying the 271 and never cracked open the 272 and still passed with a 855!

Trust me you got it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think the worst thing about MS exams is the awkward wording.

Yess.. the wording and the grammar.. Damn Americans ! =P~
It was probably written by some Indian dude with English as his 12th language.

I hate the questions "Choose what you think is BEST.."
And they are all bloody similar, and they are all good answers.

I love the ones where "That answer is stupid, thats retarded, a pizza tech would do that one .. and theres my answer there!"

I also heard that 270 was more indepth thn 271 272

I also heard that 270 was more in depth than 271 272

Its far harder than the 271,272. I studied 70-270 that for that reason. Many of my guides suggested studying 270 material instead of 271. So I purchased the Testout. (www.testout.com) and did the entire course. purchased Trancender practice test and passed the 271 and then got lazy and took the 272 (without studying) and passed which surprised me.

Basically Methical if you pass the 270 turn around and order the 271-272 and you should blow it away.

I'm reluctant to take the 270 because of its difficulty. Most of the questions have more than one valid answer. Or its an all out trick!

Heh, I'd be happy if I passed an exam I didn't study for .. 'specially with a good mark of 855 ! An hour and 10 min to go before I sit .. My head is aching already

I'm using the Microsoft Press book, the Readiness Suite that came with the book, MeasureUp.com & TestKing Practise Questions.

I have had a helpdesk job for almost 2 years now supporting XP and my boss is pushing for me to get the MCDST. I am delaying as much as possible though, lol. I hate tests!

I took it not too long ago and it is very easy. They give you more than enough time, so slow down, think about the answer, and take your time.

Good luck!

Well; thanks for everyones help this afternoon. Just those few pointers where enough to get me through.

I finished with an 84.5% correct percentile, which is a B apparently.

I found the test rather easy to be honest. I did have a lot of test questions to go through as practise though, which always helps alot. The TestKing questions are ones from the last few years of MS exams; same with COMPTIA. So some questions in my exam where VERY familiar (already had the answer before I read the whole question sorta thing).

There was quite a bit on XP Service Pack 2, and what it brought with it.
Internet Connection Firewall > Windows Firewall part of Security Center etc

A bit of questions on ICF, ICS, IIS.

The rest of them where simple questions to do with mandatory and roaming profiles, there was 2 network questions I can remember (show a diagram, and ipconfig information, and figure out why its not working). There was @ least 7 (and no exaggeration, more of an understatement) questions of

"%User% bought her/himself a USB %peripheral% and decided to install it themselves. They downloaded the latest driver from manufacturer website. Installed it and restarted the computer, then %problem% happened" What do you do ?

Isn't that an A+ cert question ?

If theres any more questions, then I'm more than happy to answer them.

Go with the first answer that makes sence to you. Every time I went back to "rethink" a question I didn't get it. So for me I had to go with my first best answer. Good Luck:D

Congrats.

I found the measure up tests to be quite similar to the A+ & Network+ questions that were asked.

Methical I know your a superior tech to me and these cost money but....

But turn around and take the 271 and 272 and mentally think about those test from the perspective of a Desktop Support guy (not Network admin as such 270) Get that MCDST and really make your credentials shine.....

I'm being super serious.

The H.R. people have no idea what any of that stuff means they just like hearing it. The 270 and 271 are similar I studied over 300 270 question and 150 271 Qs. Think of the 271 questions being all the easy 270 Questions....

You dig! Easy cert I promise and its valuable!

I will definately look into it .. I've been studyin' hard for the last 4 years . I might take a break from studyin' now and try and get myself a good (my first) professional gig.

I have to do 100 hours work experience before I can get signed off on my 3rd Diploma (2x Level 5's; 1x Level 6). e-Business; Service Technician; Advanced Business Systems.

Methical, my comments are not intended to bash you in any way, so please don't take what I say personally. I just want to point out the obvious......the practice questions from TestKing were braindumps - actual test Q&A's. Just about anyone can study (I mean memorize) the Q&A's for a couple of weeks and pass the tests with no problem. This is one of the reasons certifications have lost their value.

Oh yeah definately. Completely agree with you there.

Just cos you can memorize a bunch of test questions, doesnt mean to say you are goin' to pass the exam though.

You also need to understand :
# the question/scenario that they are putting across
# all of the answers given
# why the correct answer is correct
# why the wrong answer(s) are wrong

Test questions are just more of a 'confidence' booster to me. So I know what sort of questions to expect, and if I can't answer a certain question without lookin' at the answers, then I'll note that one down, come back to it later; and do some further research on it so I understand why "its that answer, and not that one"

You can definitely pass the exam by learning the Testking answers by rote and nothing else. It's common practice in India.

Anyway I'm sure that doesn't apply in your case given your very obvious knowledge of the subject. But you should be aware that TK are a braindump company offering current exam answers and officially this can invalidate an exam passsed by using them. This never happens of course despite what Certguard claim but you might want to be careful about it.

The best practice questions (as opposed to braindumps) are from Transcender. They are harder than the real exam. If you can pass those then you will pass the exam.

I found the 70-290 to be pretty easy but then I use XP in a corporate environment every day and over studied for the exam by about 2 months. The 70-291 is more challenging in my opinion. I suspect you'd enjoy studying for that :-)
