I don't know how many of you have ran into this yet, but I just ran into a FBI Moneypak scam on a Kindle Fire. After researching it for a little while, I decided that it'd be much easier to perform a factory reset on the device and be done with it. However, it wasn't quite as simple as I thought it would be lol.

Every time I would try to perform a factory reset, the confirmation box would be hidden behind the page displaying the scam, which made it impossible to do a factory reset. Numerous hard resets did not work either. However, I did notice that there was a small time lag after rebooting the device and the scam popping up.

To remove the moneypak scam from a Kindle, you have to be quick. Here is what I had to do in order to perform a factory reset:

1: Power the device completely off
2: Power the device on
3: As soon as you see the lock screen, quickly unlock it
4: Swipe down and tap the more icon
5: Select Device
6: Select factory reset
7: Select "yes" on the conformation box

As soon as you tap the "yes" in the confirmation box, the scam page will pop up, but give it a few minutes and it will be like new! To ensure it is performing the reset, all you have to do is turn the device to the side to see if the scam popup flips. If it doesn't flip then the process is already started and you're in the clear. If it does flip then you will have to repeat the above process over again, as you didn't tap the "yes" quick enough when it asks you to confirm a factory reset.

If anyone here knows of a better way to get rid of this that I do, please do share. Thanks all!

What do you charge a customer for resetting a Kindle Fire ? I cant imagine charging them PC repairs rates but we gotta make something. :p

Were you able to determine how the scam got onto the Kindle in the first place? Wouldn't think that clicking on something while surfing the web would do it like it would on a PC.

I just charged them 10 bucks (first time learning experience discount lol), although I normally charge 15 for android resets. The killer with this reset is the fact that I had to be quick with it, and I don't know of another way to reset the kindles, except through kindle's method (Maybe someone else does?).

More than likely it was the fact that this young lady had the kindle set to allow "unauthorized" apps to install. This is the only thing I could think of.
