I thought I'd share this solution since I saw no reference to it in our forum here. If you haven't run into this one, you most likely will soon. I didn't want my fellow techs to have to search all over the net for the bazilliion different solutions I tried before finding this one.
Machine: Dell Vostro 230, Intel Core Duo E7500 - 2.93 Ghz, 4Gb Ram, Win 7 x64. Microsoft Office Home & Student Trial Pre-installed.
When trying to install MS Office Home & Student 2010, the following message would come up:
"Error 1719. The Windows Install Service could not be accessed" when installing programs.
First, I uninstalled the trial version.
Next I located the installer service application folder: C:\windows\system32.
Opened CMD prompt and typed: C:\windows\system32\ msiexec /unregister (enter)
Then: C:\windows\system32\ msiexec /register (enter).
That was it. Although some of the other solutions may work for Vista, XP, or x86 versions, this worked immediately for Win 7 x64 system.
Good luck.
