FYI Dell r710 missing disk/drives at install

Ok so if I can shed some light for anyone else and save them $300 that I just spent talking to Dell. So new ebay Server loading 2012 R2 at the splash screen it says Missing media CD, USB, Hard drives. We had just created a Raid 10 and went about our business attempting to load the OS, but it failed.

So, called Dell and he wanted to know if we did a FAST INIT on the Raid, I said huh? So, sure enough, we went into the Perc controller and the initialization was at 30% so the drive technically didn't exist. When we did the fast init we rebooted and loaded windows just fine.

I've actually run into this before on my R710's as well as some other machines. Since I prefer the long method I just crank it up and comeback in a few hours to make sure it went fine.

Yup gotta make sure the RAID controller is done building it...until then, it ain't ready yet.

lol, I usually have Dell prebuild my raid so I never noticed this. However, HP always needs to be built and never had this issue. Oh well it was an expensive learning process for me.

First time it happened to me support said I had bad drives. Bought new ones, same problem. Then I noticed the % progress. Details, details. LOL!!!
