Customer brought it a gateway laptop nv56r10u. They state it won't power on. Disassembled the laptop and found the external plastic power button does not line up with the pcb button underneath. It's 1/2" off. There is no way this ever worked. It appears there may be something missing, but what? PCB board was screwed in place so we know it's in the right place. Plastic button fits in recessed area of top plastic. Nothing was loose in the machine, nothing rattling around.

Can't find internal images of this laptop anywhere. Anyone familiar with it?

Is the power button mounted in the right side hinge of the LCD panel assembly?

If it's what I'm thinking the power button is connected remotely via a cable. You'll have to take the LCD panel out to get to the switch.

No, the button is on the right above the keyboard in the top plastic. The button is a small piece of plastic that is plastic welded to the top plastic. When pressed, it pushes the power button located on the PCB screwed to the underside of the top plastic. The issue is the PCB button itself is 1/2" away from the plastic button. There has to be an extension or small piece of plastic that works as a lever to come in contact with the PCB button.

One thing I noticed is the customer used a flat head screwdriver to pry the button. They did not pry it out, but I'm wondering if they broke or pulled out the plastic piece I am looking for. They are clueless.

Check put the link nline provided. You need a service manual at this point.

It says it is, but the model in the images is not a match. The nv56 series is quite different than the nv53.

This is everything in place

It appears to be. Too bad they don't show the underside. I'd like to know what is missing before we order in plastic.
