Hey guys,

Bit of an unusual one this. Been asked to backup a users Gnotes app on their phone either to a computer, or another notes program, or app (this is the Gnotes app: https://help.gnotes.me/user#/login). They have an old backup of Gnotes on their phone but I'm not sure what way to get it onto another program or device, as it seems Gnotes (I think originally a Google app), is no longer in operation.

User is happy to pay for another notes app or program if needs be to get their notes backed up onto the new app or program.
Can anyone assist with this?

Thanks

Never heard of it but from my search in Google it says you can sync those with a Gmail account. Then I'm guessing you can export those from Gmail to a CSV or something else, maybe sync to Outlook with Google Workspace connector.

Yeah you used to be able to sync in google but not anymore as Google have unfortunately stopped supporting the app.
Thanks for the suggestion though... any other suggestions?

I don't know, how many are there? Can you copy and paste into an email on the phone? Then you can copy them into another program. Is he on Google Workspace or just Gmail?

I like your thinking and thats a great idea but unfortunately there are approx. 1600 individual notes all contained within different folders, so it would likely take a week (well maybe not quite that long but it would take ages) to manually copy and paste each one. He's just on Gmail, not Google Workspace. I'm really not sure how best to do it.

You can try android migration software. I had success with that once moving a load of local contacts (not in the Gmail) to the computer and got into Outlook.

or...try setting up a Google Workspace and seeing if that will sync as it's a paid account and app sync should work, not sure but for $10 worth a shot.

I think you need to start preparing your 'bad news' speech. While this app was updated as late as January of 2020, it appears to be gone now, no support, no syncing. It's still in the play store, I see...with some exasperated folks in your situation giving poor ratings.

I would have given the client the bad news speech before I start, but I'm always willing to try all my tricks in the book with no guarantees. We have a safe word when it it's getting too expensive and time to give up lol. But sometimes the data can get out of that phone.

I've had people go up to $1200 before but the problem gets solved! Start low, like "well I can see what I can do for 30 min...." and that is enough for you to know if you're getting somewhere.

Ok, so managed to pop dropbox on their phone and extract out the backup file to dropbox. Then the backup notes can be individually copied and pasted from dropbox to another note app. A bit laborious but a solution nonetheless. Pity there wasn't a way to auto do the repetitive copy and paste task.

As for the notes that haven't been backed up on the phone, they'll be bigger problem. Will need a bit of further playing around with them to see what can be done. Will look into the migration software - thats a good suggestion to try.
