I've been using SmartFTP for the longest time, but apparently it is no longer free and my trial expires in four days.

Anybody know of a really good, reliable FTP client that can modify file permissions and see hidden files on a server?

I like flashfxp. It is not free but reasonably priced and you get lifetime support and upgrades. I think i paid about $25 for it and I couldn't be happier with it. Check it out:

It does have a 30 day free trial so download it and give it a try.

I've been using filezilla for quite a while and don't have a problem with it.

Also if you're in a pinch you can use the built-in command line client in windows. Just open a command prompt and type "ftp". You can type "help" to get a list of commands.

Agree that Filezilla is the way to go.
Use it to manage over a dozen web sites with no problems

Free FTP comes with Windows XP and Vista

I use one that comes with Windows and shows everything just like a standard Windows window...

Free Windows FTP

Please forgive me for the fact that I'm linking you back to my own blog to show you how to do it.

Filezilla for normal use. I was using the built in command prompt with batch files for a while but have since switched to AutoIt for my remote monitoring project. I also use the Filezilla server version.
