Google Ads: Long Tail Keywords vs Head Keywords

Hi all, would really appreciate some feedback and general guidance from people that actually run successful google campaigns.

I'm a little confused and torn about what keywords to advertise for, right now I am targeting NYC only by zip code in my campaign so the search traffic is limited which is ok. It's my understanding that when you use the google keyword tool it's showing you the traffic based on what your geographic settings are targeting.

But let's take for example IT solutions. According to the keyword planner, the term IT solutions gets about 2600 hits a month and the bid is around $26 per click. On the other hand IT solutions company gets about 50 hits a month and costs about $10 a month, this is what I would consider a long tail keyword.

So if I were to create an ad group with IT solutions as the keyword, should I not create another ad group with IT solutions company in it since that would probably be considered a duplicate by Google?

I know it's also strategy in this case, do I pay more for more impressions or pay less for a much more targeted approach. What's also a little frustrating is finding the long tail keywords, a lot of the terms I'm putting in google says it doesn't have any data but I guess I have to invest the time to find them.

I'm probably going to call Google for some advice but I know there are some people on here that use adwords and make money from it so if you are willing would love to hear your thoughts, thanks so much.

I never understood Google Ads until I called them, they are very helpful and are willing to spend a lot of time with you on your campaigns. I now spend about $400 a month, so worth it as half my monthly jobs are now coming in from Google Ads or my website blogging. I am still trying to track better, but I don't really care lol....the jobs keep coming in.

Others might know more, I recommend a call to them.
