Okay I'll be honest. I love my website, but I don't. I like the overall look, the color scheme, etc. It's a good balance between professional, easy on the eyes, not too white, and not to professional that it's hard for a customer to keep reading.

Here's my issue. I'm running Joomla. A really old version of Joomla. It's already been hacked once by some israeli hacking group becuase of an old jQuery exploit. I want to move to Wordpress. But I like the general look of my site and want something similar. I don't mind paying for a theme, but I don't want to buy something and then set it up only to find it doesn't suit what I want or the way the business color scheme is. I'm not a fan of white themes. I hate them. I'm leaning towards wordpress templates with sliders, but I don't want the slider to take up the entire front page, I want it small enough to still put stuff below it. I don't like sliders with lots of images, because I would have no idea what to fill the image slots with.

This is my dilemma. I've searched hi and low for hours on Themeforest and other sites the past few months. I always come up dry and end up getting frustrated. I'd really appreciate some input. When it comes to getting templates for clients I can do it just fine, but when it comes to finding something for me, I get frustrated and give up.

I like templates like www.akroncomputerguy.com becuase of the slots where he can put services on the front page, but I don't want to copy him, and I kinda don't like the all black look.

I also like sites like www.fastsupport.us.

Input is appreciated! Thank you everyone!

I think you are over-emphasising the importance of theme choice. There are lots of really flexible WP themes that will do just about any look you could possibly want. Combine this with plugins (way more than Joomla) and its an extremely versatile system.

Some themes offer more flexibility than others:

Canvas (already mentioned) and Udesign are two personal favorites

In regard to sliders, check out Sugar Slider - it allows you to make sliders whatever dimensions you want.

So if you want options, just get a versatile theme (fonts, backgrounds, lots of page templates, etc) and then go for it. Ultimately the design choices are up to you.
