Hey Folks,

Back in the day, we dealt with mostly towers, which we just put on the shelves we have in the back. But these days, we get more and more laptops. We still put them on the back shelf, but the laptops waste a lot of space. Going with a cubby type setup may be difficult since laptops comes in various sizes.

What do you guys use to store your computer before/after they've been worked on?

I had an idea in my head to get some sort of metal dividers (sort of like a mail room) This was I could store the laptops upright to save space. On a quick look, I can't find anything that would work tho.

Any other suggestions?

The shop I interned at in Washington when I was 14, they had those.

I opted for these at my shop; this is what we're currently using. 5 tier adjustable racks. The silver are the Work In Progress racks. The black one is the Ready for Pickup. I could have easily have 18 laptops with space for 12 desktops on the WIP racks, and 9-15 on the ready rack depending on how many desktops we have. We usually have more WIP projects than we do Ready, clients usually come pick up their equipment quickly.

I grab them from Target, but they're can be grabbed on Amazon. http://amzn.to/2ap8wpa

I have a number of large but shallow plastic bins that I put the laptops that I'm working on and waiting for parts into... one per client and mark it with the client's name on wide blue tape.
I've searched Craigslist and found a bookshelf that is 16" wide by 7' tall x 10.5" deep made out of wood. I've turned it on it's side and mounted it to the wall. I have left all of the shelves out except for the one in the center that help hold it together and I stack laptops in it and on top of it and the boxes for the power cords go on there too. The laptops that get put in here are my Dell Latitude and Precision models that I sell.
We also have the 'bakers' racks and storage racks like MikeLierman has posted. I keep small stacking bins with various parts in them.

Check out mail sorting stations. Made of wood. Each laptop has it's own nook. Desktop's are stored in the space underneath the slots.

Something like this, easily picked up at Wallmart. Has a lid too so nothing is falling out.
I think they are like $8 ea CAD.

I use the rubbermaid ones as well - they are about 6 inches deep (about 150mm) while the ones you have are 85mm, just over 3 inches. I like yours because they are more compact and there still appears to be room to put a label on the front so you can tell whose machine is in there. Do they have a manufacturer name or model number on them? I'd like to find those in the states somewhere...

I found these http://www.reallyusefulproducts.co.uk/usa/html/onlineshop/rub/b10_0litre.php

The barcode number is 5060024802870

I do know Staples were selling them over here.

Alright so who carries these Really Useful Boxes in the U.S.? I think with shipping it will be way too expensive to send it from the UK.

I like the fact they have locking latches...

I saw some at Staples the other day. They didn't carry a lot of them in the store I was at (probably had 3 or 4 types), but I bet you can put in a order through the store for whatever quanity/type you want.
