How to add airflow to rackmount devices that need to be placed on top of each other?

I'm going to be doing a job in a couple of weeks to replace a rackmount gateway and a rackmount switch. Currently all of their device just sit on top of each other on a table. This is due to a poor cabling install which does not allow a rack to be installed properly.

I know it's wrong but I'm not in the business of fixing that cabling and properly installing a rack.

So instead of plopping my stuff in the same position the other stuff currently is in, would it make sense to add rubber feet spacers for feet like this?

If it's rackmount, generally, they can just stack with zero space - it's the front and the back that is the issue - and if you're in an enclosed rack, etc. I don't see how feet will help with cooling.

Yep. No space in a rack. All the fans in proper rackmount stuff are front to back. If the previous equipment ran fine on that table then most likely the replacements will run just as well. If they ARE overheating then it is time to talk about sub-contracting a proper rack install.

Yeah don't worry about it, if it's servers or network hardware designed to go in a rack, they rely on front to back airflow, Top 'n bottom aren't an issue, they don't rely on that. Sometimes side to side..but usually front to back.
