How to Take Off a Bezel without Ripping Bottom Cover?

The area at the bottom of the laptop's LCD was ripped up a bit when I removed the bezel, which is adhered to the perimeter of the display using two-sided tape.

To my understanding, this area shouldn't even be touched.

How do I prevent this? Hopefully I don't need to apply heat to soften the tape.

Is this bad? :

It's not "bad" unless the display panel is malfunctioning. This is nothing more than protective tape for the bits that are running along the base of the display under it. A lift at a small part of the edge such as that one should just be pushed back into place, gently.

Ya, as @britechguy says, it's not bad. It more of a protection from "pressing in" and handling, and flexing the control board strips too much - the "Do Not Touch" strip.

With most of the adhesives and double-sided strips they use... it's almost inevitable it gets pulled away from the screen.
Trying to use a tool or spudger to run across the adhesive only serves to increase your chances of actual scratches or damage, IMO. Not saying you did that, speaking from experience :)
