How would you remove it this cable?

Hi,

I was working on an Acer aspire M series notebook this week and it had this one cable that just would not come out. I tried with tweezers, a spudger, and gently pulling on the cable while using the spudger. I couldn't quite get my fingers in there so I ended up working around but but it was very frustrating.

It's right next to the display cable in this picture:



So, how would you remove it

Are you talking about the cable that looks like it is the power to the inverter? For cables like that I usually use a pair of needle nose pliers. Grasp it from the top and wiggle left and right as I am pulling it out.

Never pull those by the wires, its a losing game.

I use my fingernails, if that doesn't do it I use dental tools to pry out one edge at a time.

I HATE those 4 tiny wire connectors, they are always a gamble.

Yep, I've wrecked more than one cable/connector using pliers. I still use them, but once I see it's going to be stubborn, rather than squeeze the pliers too hard, or jerk the cable upon the sudden release of the connector, I try to pry the connector loose with a spudger, tweezers, etc. I don't have any dental tools in my kit, but I might try that out.

here's what I would do.

Put a small flat head screw driver in the gap between the white and black, then twist. Move the screw driver on the other end and do the same. Switch to a bigger screw driver and do the same process. Good Luck

I find an inverted pair of curved tweezers work well with stubborn connectors like these, if you can get the tips into the connector somehow. Then just push the connector out.

never grab any cable like that by the wires.

That one looks relatively easy, to be honest. Since it's on the edge of the board you have pretty good access to it. Just use a small flat head, wiggle it out by alternating sides.

Great idea--I'm pretty sure I have a small pair like that around here somewhere--I will take a look and order some if not.

I usually use my nails too, this one was a bit tight with the screen behind the top panel. Dental tools--there's an interesting idea

I've never ruined a connector using needle nose pliers. The key is to use the pliers to move the connector left and right while gently pushing away. Rather than use my hands on the pliers to "pull/push" it out I use a regular screw driver. Hold the screw driver shaft and use the handle to lightly tap the pliers. Wiggle left and right a couple of times an then a tap or two. Rinse and repeat. Some times I need to use a jewelers screw driver to pry a bit at the top between the connector and the housing. Using a drop of two of WD 40 also makes things easier.

Same technique here....flat head driver, start with small and thin, work each side, move to large one if needed. After a while just work up some muscle and pull from the black plastic (not the wire).
