Thanks. I'm very glad this didn't happen with the Brother multifunction I installed today and that called for a firmware update.

I swear HP has to be the worst when it comes to how good some of their stuff used to be to today and how awful the majority of it is.

This is a repeat of about two or three years ago. HP pushed out a bunch of firmware updates to out of warranty printers to block third party cartridges and bricked quite a few of them. I had several customers wind up with bricked ones. HP said "they are out of warranty" and their solution was to buy new printers. I replaced them with Brother printers so no money for HP.
