Just checking to see if anyone has any expertise in this model.
The problem with this laptop is a customer came in with it not being able to boot. When you power it on the IBM screen appears, waits there and then an error comes up 0200:Failure Fixed Disk 7 hit F1 for setup. I hit F1 and go into bios and the HDD is not listed anywhere. I am assuming the HDD is dead and I take it out connect to my work machine and the HDD is working fine. I run all the usually test like EasyRecovery Professional, HD Tune and even HDD Regenerator and all 3 come back with no errors. I copied all the data just in case and the transfer went off without any problems.
The customer wanted a new HDD, reinstall everything. I ordered a drive for this and install it and same error message. Little more Googling and come to find out there is a list on Lenovo's site that lists only a handful of HDD that can be used in this machine.
So before I order one from the list, I inserted the original HDD into the laptop and get the same error message. I go into Bios and changed the Boot after message for HDD compatibility without having to press <ESC> from pause to continue. Save the settings reboot and the laptop boots fine without any problems.
I tested this one step further and shut it down, unplug, remove battery and waited a few minutes then put the battery back in, plugged it in and restarted and got the same 0200 error message. Went into bios and hit default settings key, saved and then changed the pause to continue and rebooted and works fine again.
Any ideas on what is happening? my first thought was the internal battery is dead but the clock in bios is showing correct time.
Any help would be appreciated...
