I use PC Doctor tools and its pretty good... especially the USB dongle which you can use without the CD. I also use Eurosoft PC-Check (I didn't realise at the time but the company is actually about 4 miles from me so I stuck local!!!).
I prefer PC Doctor as you can get a better report... but like to stick with local companies!
Both are pretty good and occasionally if one fails i.e. it crashes (which does happen) I use the other instead.

It looks like smoke and mirrors to me, but I sure it creates a good impression

yeah, I wouldn't mind knowing if there is anything similar for free / open source?
I looked into creating my own boot CD with automated testing / virus removal from boot but got too complicated for the amount of time I have now!
