I think its safe to say that cell phone screen repair is still a relatively untapped niche.. Doesn't seem like many local people in my area are skilled as far as repairing devices go. I only started advertising about let's say... a week ago? I'm literally getting 7-15 calls everyday about cracked ipad, ipod, and cell phone screens. When i put my focus into advertising computer repair my phone was collecting cobwebs. As soon as i shifted my focus a little on fixing cell phones it's been ringing off the hook. I know for a fact that there is almost no local competition; because when i do a Google search my ad is often the only one showing up..

Basically what I'm saying is.. If your not doing screen replacement.. start. People in my area are willing to pay 100-250 dollars to have their screens replaced ($65-150 of that is profit). Occasionally you will get the busted headphone jack and broken port; but for the most part everyone has broken a screen atleast once.

Edit: Excuse the title... I meant to put "It's"

I'm seeing the same thing, I recently added iPhone repair, and have been receiving quite a few calls for cracked screens.

I'm about to work on my first iPad (friend of a friend), hopefully it will just be like working on a big iPhone.

No... the iPad 2 can be a HUGE pain in the you know what to remove if the screen is badly damaged (nothing like the iPhone). It's glued down using this adhesive; a heat gun is required to remove it.. but the glass has the tendency to break and splinter around the edges if its cracked real bad. It's a nightmare

BTW.. i love your website.

my local pc shop specialises in this. i made a post on a facebook page though and got like 20 inboxes the other week lol.

I bought some broken blackberrys and intend to just do an iphone when i get one in and use the appropriate vids to teach me.

I done it twice with personal phone. I use guitar pick to crack it open a vizor but when you put it together, it's not completely seal. What I mean is you can tell it's been open. Are you having the same issue. Maybe just need more practice. Can you post some screen shot after you have put it back together.

My daughter send her blackberry (to someone else) and same issue. Not completely seal. Maybe it's just the way it is.

The big thing in my area (Sacramento, CA) is PS3 reflow. I'm doing some re do that was done but other shop or tech that didn't work. Either too much thermal paste or it's not applied correctly.

I've been thinking about it a while as I did a load of Iphone3s friends of my sons. Also been thinking of businesses as well so the phone have gone on the back burner.

Sure thing. The iPads are attached using a special glue.. It seals real tight. I will take a pic and post here.

I thought about it, but buying damaged iPhones can get extremely expensive, at least $80 for a 3 series and around $200 for a 4 series. I bought a "broken" 3gs off Ebay but decided not to do iPhone repairs right now, so I sold the phone, and it turned out to be stolen. There's lots of stolen iPhones out there. Make sure when buying practice phones that they aren't stolen, although it's hard to know.

Thanks, I can't take all the credit on the website, as I purchased a WordPress theme.

It sounds more like the iPod Touch 4th Gen (but bigger and probably more of a pain!). The iPod Touch 4th uses adhesive around the edge, and has to be heated and pried up. It tends to splinter a lot too.

How on earth are you getting over 100 dollars for screens when 99% of people have insurance on any phone worth fixing, and insurance will either fix it for free-$35, or replace the phone for 100?

Not to mention the guy at the swap meet will do it for 45 bucks with parts.

We don't advertise, but when I say 150 for anything phone related the person will invariably look at me like I'm retarded and walk out the door.

I've thought about rooting/jailbreaking before, but reading on android forums, there's just too much risk of bricking it for me to consider. My phone is rooted, and I'm sure most of the bricking is user error, but still..

@compnet

really $45?

here theirs a shop that only does nothing but iPhone repair I believe their prices don't go under $80 and they have a really big shop in a very expensive area of town that is know for having high end stores. So i assuming their doing extremely well especially since their the only repair shop for iPhones within a 30 mile radius.

Insurance: 100 deductible, 20 dollars a month, and a 50 dollar deductible to use.. 1 year of insurance is 340 dollars. 390-440 dollars if you use it (based on your 100 dollar figure). Doesn't sound like that much of a bargain to me. anywayyssss...

and a quote of $150 dollars isn't unusually especially when you consider that phones and tablets nowadays range from 300-800 dollars.

I've never really thought about repairing iphone/ipad screens but I guess there is big money in it - more people seem to have these devices that laptops!

Hmm got me thinking now :D

There is big money there and the field is relatively untapped. I only know of one company that specializes in my area :D

This is something I've started advertising in small doses. Any tips out there for someone who is relatively new to phone repair?

Sounds like a good opportunity for you. For me, not so much.

According to Google Places, here in LA there are at least 14 iPhone repair places within 20 miles of my house. Some will come to you and do it at your site. Prices range from $49 to $150. The guy I know that people have used charges $114 and gives you a free case.
