Issue with syncing iCloud data after resetting iPhone

iPhone 11 64GB. Client's kid forgot their passcode. I was able to use their Apple ID to reset the device. Some iCloud data are synced and some are not. In order to fix the syncing, it requires entering either the old passcode for the iPhone 11 or the passcode for his iPad - the client gave me the possible passcode but it does not work. The client does not need to "resume syncing." They just want to be able to use their phone ideally without losing purchases. They have a backup of their iCloud data. Can I just set the iPhone to reset what cannot be synced? Start new? Could I delete the entire iPhone backup that's stored in iCloud? Or are they totally SOL and need to just create a brand new Apple ID?

This MFA can be a total pain in the a** to deal with for other people.

I seem to remember that you can reset an iPhone without syncing. After you put in the ID you have an option to restore backup from iCloud and you should be able to tell it no.

I did choose the option 'Don't Transfer Anything.' I reset the phone again and did not sign in with an Apple ID. Tried signing in after setting it up and it still would not let me fully enable all of iCloud. It has no problems turning on iCloud Photos and other things, but it does not want to sync things such as Apple Keychain. Grrr o_O I will have the client bring me the kid's iPad to see what I can do with it. I once saw a screen for setting up Apple ID using another device.

After setup did you go into iCloud and turn off all syncing. If you can dump the old store that would probably solve a lot of problems.

I was able to resolve this using her son's iPad. It turns out that the iPhone needed a different iPad's passcode to finish syncing iCloud. That iPad is an iPad Pro 11" 2nd gen (2020 model) and the iPad I received is an iPad Pro 10.5" (2017 model).

The iPad had iCloud syncing issues as well and I was able to fix it there and then I was able to use this iPad's passcode to finish setting up iCloud sync on the iPhone.

Hooray. Solved! 😃

I bet a lot of Apple devices have been recycled or thrown out due to permanent device locks.

Just when you think it can't get any worse...... Multiple iDevices that the customer is clueless about. LOL
