Just had a client call back "Microsoft" and you wont believe what she did.

Speechless! I can't say anything that hasn't already been said except shake my head again and again. This story took the cake.

Believe it or not, she has a very successful international advertising sign business.

Her companies credit is about to implode. Unreal that otherwise smart people fall for this crap.

Our police agencies and public opinions do not help with these matters. This type of fraud can be impeded with consumer protections but for some reason when you commit a crime with a pen you are a businessman, all is fair. Commit a crime with a crack pipe and a $WAT team invites themselves to your party and your house gets repossessed by the Sheriff.

Why not apply the same draconian laws to the con men, crooks and thieves?

I love watching Lewis on youtube mess with the scammers.

I've been half tempted to spin up a virtual machine myself, and have some fun. I just really haven't had time that I'd want to use to do that with.

I always tell people, NEVER give your credit card or personal information out to ANYONE trying to help you over the phone. ESPECIALLY if you do not know them personally. Especially when your talking to a guy who is as Indian as the day is long yet claims his name is "Kevin Smith".

Me too. But, not sure I'd want to open myself up to them in any way. To do it I'd have to get a burner phone and number. Also would need to put it on an alternate public IP address.

Lol. Give the jerks the number for your police department.

Ok so she got a popup that said to call Microsoft, so she did. She confirmed it was Microsoft by asking them "are you sure you are Microsoft?" he said "Yes" and gave his company id.

He proceeded to log onto her computer, and showed her how many attacks are hitting her computer now.

He had her Scan her Drivers license which she did and sent it to him, scan her passport which she did and sent it to him, her credit card which she did and sent it to him.

I think she is safe now, right?

OMG. That is the worst I heard so far and I get these at least twice a week in our shop. The best is when you tell them "no that was not really Microsoft that you were talking to", and they argue with you and put up a bigger fuss than they did with the fake Microsoft guy. Go figure.
