About a year ago I was trying to figure out how to do hardware diagnostics and adjust BIOS settings remotely. I figured that if one could have access to a KVM console with IP then you could hook up the machine which needs work to it, log into the KVM console and do your work. I found one unit that seems to do this but at $800 it seems a bit expensive.

I would think that it would be possible to make one with a computer, or not? It is essentially like using a virtual machine from a computer. You would need to output the keyboard and mouse from the host (KVM IP Machine) to the target PC and have the video output from the target machine being input into the host KVM machine. From there you would just need to do a remote desktop to the host KVM machine and this could be done with many types of remote software, even VNC. I would think that Linux would be ideal for this.
