LMIR vs Teamviewer

I have been researching this topic to death on here and other sites. I was wondering if anyone has used both. I am talking about log me in rescue and team viewer professional (not the free ones).

It appears that the general consensus is that LMIR is definitely the King of remote support in most eyes.

I have been using teamviewer free off and on to help a few clients out with small things. I haven't felt the need to pay yet because I did not make any money doing what I did using teamviewer.

Anyways, I am going to be getting a web site soon with remote support advertised on there. I am going to service my local areas but also try to advertise out a little further than I normally would.

I am just wondering basically what does LMIR do that Teamviewer CANNOT do?

They both can be incorporated on a web site. They both seem very easy to connect to a customer. They both have auto reconnect on a restart.

I guess I am wondering from you guys that have had any experience with both what you prefer and why.

Thank you,

Landon

I wouldn't rule out GotoAssist Express either. I'm in the same position as you at the moment and I can't quite decide which route to go. All three have met my needs in testing:

They are easy for the customer to connect to and can easily be integrated into your own site.
They don't require any messing with firewalls to work.
They allow file transfers.
They allow reboots and Safe Mode booting.

Logmein Rescue is clearly a more polished and feature packed tool than the other two, but I'm not sure it warrants the extra cost.

Teamviewer has the benefit of you actually owning the software and if you ask nicely they will allow you to spread the cost over a couple of months. The only additional cost would be when a major update appears. You cant run as many concurrent sessions with Teamviewer (The business edition) as Logmein or GotoAssist but three would be enough for me anyway and you can upgrade to the other versions if you need to later.

GotoAssist Express has the benefit of being able to have a rolling monthly contract and being cheaper than Logmein.

I've ruled out Logmein Rescue for now and I'm trying to pick between Teamviewer and GotoAssist. I like the idea of owning the software but I also like the fact that I'm not tied to GotoAssist long term if I decided I wanted to switch.

ive tested all three out.

LMIR is as good as any of them in my opinion but its over 1k per year and add another 700 if you want smartphone remote. i just do not see anything in LMIR for my purposes that makes it worth at least 500 more per year than GTA.

Have you decided which one to go for yet? I noticed you were drifting towards TV in your thread.

I own a TV licence and really like it. In my previous employment I used both TV and LMIR but mainly the latter. From what I saw(2 years) ago LMIR is better if you have multiple licences and maybe need to move your remoted client to and fro to another member with a licence. In my opinion TV is the way to go for a relative low cost but good product and LMIR for multiple licences and a higher cost.

I use team viewer pro and have been satisfied. Like that there is not a monthly fee, although you can figure it to cost around 700 per year if you keep up to date on the versions.

I appreciate all your responses everyone!!

I am still deciding, but Teamviewer definitely sounds good for starting off and if things really get rolling then I suppose the extra cost of LMIR wouldn't be too bad.

Also I think someone said on TN here that you could get the new "major" release for like 35 percent of the original cost if your an existing customer.

Thanks for the correction. I have the premium version, so it would have been $469. That will teach me to try and go from memory....

I don't have the paid version of TV, and I have rarely used LMIR, but don't forget that with a license for TV, you can brand the package so that the customer won't be able to tell as easily.

If I was going to go down the paid route for remote support, I'd be choosing TV, it's been exceptionally reliable for me.

Teamviewer-

One thing with Teamviewer that doesn't make sense is on the "Business package" for $749 is that you can only install it on 1 machine??

This means to me that you can only install on 1 computer and that's it. What happens if that one computer breaks down in the middle of a job. I would like to be able to hop onto another computer and continue working.

With the premium license, they allow "unlimited" installations. I understand I can only use 1 at a time.

Can anyone clear this up?

Thanks,

Landon

Quoted from their site....

Licenses apply to the number of workstations as shown in the license overview at the time of purchase. A transfer of a license in case of changing the workstation etc., can be carried out 10 times. If the license is installed in a Terminal Server environment, the license is user based, a separate license for each user is required. Premium licenses can be installed and activated on an unlimited number of computers.

Ok I guess I must have missed that when reading on their site.

I just wonder if you have to contact them to transfer a license.

Just to expand on what Kevin posted, I asked Teamviewer about this a few weeks ago and their reply was this:

1. The Business version allows you to install TeamViewer on 1 fix machine. You are allowed to transfer the Business license to another PC 10 times. Only the PC where you activated the license at last will obtain the Business license. (On the PC where you have used the Business License before will get the non licensed version.) You can support an unlimited amount of customers with it.

If you replace your hardware frequently then this is fine with us because the Business License is a lifetime license. You can call us anytime and we will reset your counter again.
We have only installed the counter to prevent abuse, e.g when someone switches between his computer at work in the morning and his computer at home in the afternoon on an almost daily basis.

So you can switch PCs as many times as you like but after every 10 switches you will need to contact TV support to reset your counter.

I changed mine from my Mac to a new desktop. I think all I did was made sure it was closed on my Mac then activated it on my new machine. You definitely don't have to tell them. They should tell you how to do it in the FAQs.

So far I have been very impressed with TV. I have now done 2 fake antivirus removals and a couple of clean ups, and repaired outlook. (Got my first testimonial for a remote call yesterday)

Initially I was only hosting a customised QuickSupport executable, but after doing the first virus removal I decided to also host a customised version of the Host installer as well. I did considerable testing with it on a virtual machine running, combofix, TDSkiller and various other tools. Only thing I haven't tried is rkill yet.

Many apps initiate a restart if they find anything and this means that TV doesn't reconnect when using the quick support. So I am now getting them to install the Host version in certain situations as this runs as a service, and allows you to see when it's back online in the partners section. This meant I didn't have to keep ringing the customer back up to help me reconnect. I have done a tutorial on uninstalling the host so that the client has the option if they wish to remove it after I have finished.

TV is going to pay for iteself very quickly:D

Good stuff TLE. Did you reboot into safe mode with networking and use wireless?

Yep all worked very nicely, Really glad I have purchased it. I think it's one of the best items I have bought for the business over the last year.
