I'v been looking for a full convertible with everything, including Ethernet, for the past year. As far as I can tell there are only 2 options. Both of them have big drawbacks. Has anyone found other alternatives?

- Lenovo ThinkPad Twist = Last Gen Processor meaning bad battery life.
- HP Pavilion 11t-n000 x360 = Very Cheap & Atom processor meaning slow.

It's a laptop that can be used like a tablet.

techyguy, What exactly is it you want to do with this machine? If you just need ethernet for network diagnostics might I recommend one of these?

I've considered this, but it won't work. I'm also a cable technician and some contracts require testing each cable to make sure the internet is accessible. I've been taking a cheap netbook PC for these jobs, but really want something better and faster. The HP Pavilion 11t-n000 x360 looks to be an updated netbook.

All of the high priced laptops don't have Ethernet. Why would I pay more for less? So many of my clients have their WiFi and LAN networks separated. Any other recommendation, or am I asking for something that doesn't exist?

Not to question your judgement, but why wouldn't the USB ethernet work? I run network test on mine all the time without issue.

My concern with the HP would be battery life. It only has a 2 cell battery and with a HDD instead of a SSD, It's never going to last an entire day without a charge.

I think you're going to have a hard time finding everything you are looking for. Compared to most ports, ethernet ports are pretty big, so it's hard to fit them into ultrathin packages.

I wouldn't totally discount atom processors either. Sure they are not as fast but generally they are pretty still quick as long as your not doing anything super processor intensive. Especially when combined with a SSD drive.

I don't consider up to 6 hours bad battery life. You're not being very specific on your requirements. Weight, size, thickness, 7 or 8, etc. Makes it a little hard for me to suggest something.

Convertible Laptop

I believe all current convertible laptops are Windows 8 touchscreens. Weight. Size, Price and Thickness aren't important. I need anything with Ethernet and an updated processor. I have already waited 1 year to upgrade and learned the Lenovo ThinkPad Twist is no receiving a Haswell processor update. It's replacement, Yoga, does not have Ethernet.

If I am walking around testing internet capability of Network cables, how do I handle an Ethernet Dongle? I see myself as needing 3 hands, without a full Ethernet port. My $300 Asus Netbook is perfect for this, but getting old.

I look at ethernet ports just like serial ports. The industry may be moving away from certain connections for numerous reasons but that does not change my requirements.

I've worked with USB to serial adapters for several years. I've run into a handful of occasions where I was not able to establish a connection with the target device using the adapter. But worked fine with a laptop with a regular serial port.

In the case of using a ethernet dongle I have never had a problem. Granted all of my experience is with either a Macbook Air or a MBP Retina. Using both USB as well as Thundebolt.

At this point I still need to have the "real" thing in terms of serial ports. So I am left with buying what I need on fleabay when I need it. But with regular RJ45 connections I'm not worried. USB/Thunderbolt has worked fine. And one can get USB3 to GB dongles now as well.
