Mac Mail not working on iMac deleted old account and tried creating a new one.
It's configured as other, local ISP the Gmail account works seems there's no way to go in and change port or encryption, comes back saying bad password or email, maybe something is blocking the port going back tomorrow will run Malwarebytes.
I tested it with Webmail
can a repair be done, it's an older iMac maybe 2013.

So what version of Apple Mail? The improvements in security dictated by the biggies, like MS and Google, guarantee that many older clients won't connect. Apple Mail is one of them. And the biggies have gotten rid of application specific passwords as well wit OAuth2

A 2013 Mac would have shipped with 10.9 with it's LAST major update 2016. That's 9 years ago. I stopped trying to wank around with that really old stuff years ago.

Actually a 2013 iMac can run macOS Catalina 10.15.7. That stopped getting updates 2 years and 7 months ago (Sep 2022). Still old, but not that bad. But...

I agree. I wouldn't want to mess with it myself either. A system that old, even with it's most up to date software isn't that up to date and I'm always advising clients to run software that gets OS updates.

If I were in your situation and they couldn't replace their machine I'd advise them to give up on using Mac Mail. Just have them use it through a browser. Unless, of course, you want them to hire you every six months when the Mail client breaks.

Another option would be to use Open Core Legacy Patcher and you can run a current version of macOS.
