I have a customer with a MacBook Air 13-inch 2017
He has an external monitor using a mini-display port to VGA adapter.
He would like to add another monitor and purchased this from Amazon.

He can't get it to work. We even tried removing the mini-display port adapter and only using the USB to VGA adapter and nothing happens. The MAC os does not give any indication that another monitor is attached. I personally installed the drivers to make sure they were installed. I tried the cable with his known good monitor an got the same results.

I did not try the adapter on different computer to make sure it is ok. I could try that if I need to.

Does anyone know of an adapter that would work on this unit?
I am wondering if @Markverhyden would have any input.
Thanks

Video Support
Simultaneously supports full native resolution on the built-in display and up to 3840-by-2160 resolution at 60Hz on an external display, both at millions of colors

  • Thunderbolt digital video output
  • Native Mini DisplayPort output
  • VGA, HDMI, DVI, and dual-link DVI output using adapters (sold separately)
The way I read this, then anything more than one external display is going to be a hack. Not something that I'd want to support. Not saying you can't but any time I see someone trying to run video over USB I cringe.

I'd have been very surprised it that solution had worked at all. Only have used video of HDMI and TB. USB C works because they pipe TB through it. To use USB A you'd need to have a video controller and even then I'd expect it to work poorly at best. Something like this.
