Hi guys,

Just been playing with my 'HTPC' (first time setting one up) And I have a few questions for those of you who are experienced with this ..

I have my PC dual-booted with XBMC and Windows XP, using GRUB Loader 1.5. (XBMC is the primary OS by default) I don't even know how to configure the GRUB Loader either ..

I downloaded XBMCLive and booted it and installed to a new partition.
XBMC plays all my movies, music, music vidz, and shows my pictures perfectly. It even automatically found all the details and artwork for everything (I have strict naming conventions; have done for years)

With the Windows XP, I want it just for the games. I'm getting a couple of Wireless PC Controller tomorrow (if I win the auction).I was just wonderin' if there was like a 'Media Center' for Games for XP. So I can have it autoload, and it comes up with all the Games installed on my PC. Sort of like the Game Launcher that is in Vista. But for XP. And much better =) Any ideas ?

And how do you go about turning on your PC with a remote ? I can turn it off with the remote. But it won't turn on. I've done a bit of googling, but haven't found anything concrete. 'Cept one thread I found was talkin' bout having 'Wake from USB' but my BIOS doesn't have that option.

Cheers,

Methical

Grub

I can help a little with GRUB, what is giving you trouble?
The partition/drive to boot from is in /boot/grub/menu.lst
Just edit it with a basic text editor like nano or vi.
Or in the GUI you can use kwrite.
You will need root privileges.
Let me know if you need more info on any of that.

The drive & partition numbering starts at 0 in GRUB

The other way to work on GRUB is to press "e" to edit at the boot menu.

XBMCLive is the default (priority) OS in GRUB.
I've played with Linux a bit at course; but not so much for private use.

When I purchased my motherboard, I didn't look at the ports/socket right, and found when I got it; that there was inadequete IDE ports on the MOBO. So I've only got one DVD Drive and one IDE Drive (Windows XP) installed. I unhooked my DVD Drive the other day, to try and hook up both IDE drives (the one with XP installed, and another one with 250gb data).

Turn the computer on; the new IDE is recognised as a slave on the first channel. But I get a 'Error 22' when GRUB Loader is trying to load.

Thanks to all who have posted. At least I have somewhere to start now :) Any more ideas/suggestions let me know.
