Would like a long 72" or so desk that can fit my computer and printer. And a desk for the side to work on computers. Maybe an L-shaped desk.

Was thinking about getting this as it looks great and appears to be built like a tank, but not sure about the 34" starting height: Maybe something like this.

It looks ok, but my concern is its structural integrity; IE: desks like this tend to get cracks in the welds on the legs after being constantly jiggled by movement.

The legs are height adjustable so I would recommend checking the height by lowering/raising it before purchase.

To make an "L" shape you could get two and join them with a piece of square table top. That would also help with the required length. Join them at the meeting edges with brackets underneath, or glue and brackets, with a wooden support leg for the far corner cut to length.

I've been thinking about this for awhile and I've come to the conclusion that I'm just going to have to build it.

I'm thinking butcher block surface, and some 4x4 for legs, or perhaps some 3" EMT painted black. But I also want the entire thing to permanently set to bar height (42").

Desk chair will be a drafting stool with a back.

I went without legs and used 2-drawer file cabinets at each end which added the storage I needed. Perfect desk height but won't get you to 42".

Kitchen worktops have always worked well for me. They're relatively inexpensive, available in long lengths and lots of different veneers (or solid wood). Fix them to the wall and/or add kitchen drawer units for support (if you need drawers), or just buy cheap adjustable legs from IKEA, such as these: https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/olov-leg-adjustable-black-30264301/

I created my office using the Bush office furniture (from their Series "A" line, see https://www.bushfurniturecollection.com/series-a--C0.htm ) about 15 years ago. It was a little pricey, but it's held up perfectly over time and still looks almost brand new.

I was thinking about going with Bush but I don't like that they're made with particle board. I want something heavy duty.

Understand ... all I can say is that it's been in daily use since 2003 and looks almost brand-new.

I have commissioned a woodworker to build a large U-Shaped custom desk for me.. it should be here next week. I remodeled the whole office.. and that's the last piece holding me back from completing the room.

Normally they charge $55 for shipping but it's free now, which is very nice given that my nearest Home Depot is 1 hour away.

If I had the room, I would have gotten the ultra long 8 foot version.
