need some help

point taking, sorry again. And i am not a pizza tech.

In no way did I mention you were a "Pizza Tech", actually I am pretty sick of even hearing that on these forums. Seems it is the common excuse everyone is using to flame somebody.

All I was saying is at least do some of the basic work before you come looking for help, how can we help troubleshoot something you haven't even looked at for yourself. It would have been beneficial for you if it started as: "I checked this, this, this, and that, what should I do next?", Not "Well hey I don't have time to look at this someone tell me whats wrong", just puts out a bad image.

Ok fellas, I think we bitch slapped this guy enough...

Lesson learned, all is forgiven. :D

thanks, not so hard next time please
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

okay the motherboard is a P5Q PRO, and the thing that is confusing me know is when i switch it on, the power supply goes amber to red, but the motherboard LED is green, which is in standby, if the power supply is bust can it still supply power to the MB. there is no post, no fans on nothing, dead.

like it said in the other post the power supply is a OCZ elitexstream 1000W and some people have had problems with these, when it goes amber to red.

Hve you tested the outputs of the PSU to see if it is providing proper power? How about swapping the PSU with another?

have not got a spare CPU. but tested the outputs, no voltage coming from the molex, dead. customer wants to change the 1000W power supply for a 650W, trying to find the right one with the right connecters is a pain in the arse. will start googling soon lol.

I will try not to use the term “Pizza Tech”, Terrorist, and “Expert” (Ex= has been & spurt = drip under pressure) in this forum any more.

Man made disasters caused by amateur, Italian/American round food eating persons is kind of long don’t ya think?

and your point is.

I own the ASUS P5QC with is another variant of the ASUS P5Q pro. Im using an E8400 its an overclocking giant and combined with P5Q pro its a super beast!!!!!!!!

Wolfdale core its a great overclocking CPU. Even if I remove both 12 volt rails the fans will turn on BTW (at least I remember that way as i was building)

If hes an OCer make sure you get a 600 watt that has enough amps to power whatever beast graphics card he has. This is assuming he has a beastly graphics card.

This looks perfect but its a bit bigger then 600watts.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139006

it has a strong 12 volt rail. its a 5 star rating at 1000 reviews. its a must see at the least. A a great comlipent to any mammoth setup.

Goodluck my friend.

just a quick question, if the power supply is nackerd, can it still sent power to the MB. because i tested the molex and it shows no voltage.

Yes there are PSU problems of all types including that one. :) A dying PSU can even seem to work by powering on fans etc, may even load an OS.

There are many kinds of PSU problems. PSU is a best to swap and test over anything else. They have PSU testers but they do not always deliver reliable results. They should be in a diagnosis kit but not the only diagnosis method.

Take a look at that. its Basic

That is advanced.

Happy PSU swapping. If you dont have a strong test PSU you should probably buy one!! I think a spare PSU is a must.

Good luck.

cheers, just tested the nackerd PSU in another computer as i did not think i had the right connection. so just tried it, does the same, powers on, then go to switch the computer on and cuts off, so goes from amber to red. there is the culprit.

=) grab yourself a psu tester for around 20 quid with the profit mate, will save you alot of time in the future when a prob like this crops up, just plug in all the connectors and bam... you'll know if theres a problem,

If your still after a 650 watt psu i'd say grab this: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-008-CS (if the customer would be happy with that price and the labour.)

also make sure a 650 watt will be enough to power it,
