I got a new IODD ST400. I can't see or partition the SSD I put in it. I would just take the SSD back out but it's a complete pain to get the drive bay open and I'm really afraid I'm going to break it. The SSD was previously used and needs partitioning etc.

I can browse the files via the lcd, but when I plug it into windows, it doesn't even see it as a disc.

I've tried fiddling with Settings --> mode setting" settings, but I've not come up with any combination that makes it recognise anything.

What do I do next?

Return it and get a different model iODD. I've got the ST400. It works OK but I like my older model(s) better. I don't like the interface on the ST400.

My day to day iODD is a prior model, don't know which one, but it has a shiny black front panel with a touch sensitive number pad.

You know how you can be so focused on working on something that you can't see the forest for the trees? I got up this morning and realised it was just the USB cable. I'm not even sure it was the cable that came with it.

So I guess you could technically classified this as fixed, except it was never broken in the first place.

Anyone who claims they've never, "been there, done that, got the T-Shirt," is lying. It happens to the best of us. In fact, I'd say it happens to the "best of the best" more often than the mediocre because they can get so laser focused.

It's kinda a variant on this theme:
The specialist knows more and more about less and less and finally knows everything about nothing.
