New windows 10 update prevents some machines from booting

Only had one in/call today, Bad stick of ram. :(

Interesting, I also only had 1 call today... and it was a file association problem, .xml wasn't clued to Edge anymore so she couldn't "open" a file... that she can't read anyway... loan office, long story, has to move XML from one system to another, and likes to open the files just to make sure there's stuff in there. Most of these particular .xml files contain SSL certificates... so it's literally pages of gibberish.

But yeah, that's it... whole office full of paper pushing loan people, printing happily, perfectly, and near continuously.

That's my "nightmare" for the evil patch Friday of October 2019.

  • Addresses an intermittent issue with the print spooler service that may cause print jobs to fail. Some apps may close or generate errors, such as the remote procedure call (RPC) error.

Jesus, I've been LOSING MY MIND over this one lately. I spent 3 hours yesterday trying to solve this issue with no luck. Hopefully installing the update fixes it.

Happened yet again customer wanted fresh reload of current windows 10 everything was fine till it installed updates from 3rd during restart the screen turned blue then black and just locked up again on an AMD system with black screen.
one of those low profile acer ones next time i prevented new updates from 3rd installing on it and it is working fine.
Ok i have gone though more of the machines that have been brought in they all have one thing in common all AMD machines with AMD integrated graphics APU`s.

We are investigating reports that a small number of devices may startup to a black screen during the first logon after installing updates.

Oh great now i am getting loads of calls about not being able to print after going through my voice mail keep making me money microsoft :)

Update October 04, 17:34 EDT: According to additional user reports, the Windows 10 cumulative updates released yesterday are also causing printing issues on devices where there were no printing problems before. Specifically, the print spooler Windows service will not stay running after the system update.

nope it made things worse lol.

Oh boy on one of my personal computers that update got through an old i7 2600k overclocked broke start menu takes forever to boot now have black screen for like 14 mins till desktop have to remove it now.
I hope they release the security update separate in next few days.
Also getting in machines with audio issues after last few updates volume level is very low had it happen to a test machine at work i have to turn up speakers to 80% to be able to hear anything.
If i re-install the driver volume is back to normal levels on realtek chips.

I've had enough. One of my shop machines got the printing bug today. I'm not updating Windows anymore. I'd rather have viruses/hackers than Microsoft's garbage "updates." I've neutered my personal machines and now I'm neutering my business machines too. I might start doing it for clients as well. I'm so sick of this sh*t.

My personal machine in my bedroom has been neutered forever now. I'm still on 1709 and it's been a dream. Not one problem ever. It's the oldest version of Windows I'm running, but I just don't care anymore. I'd rather run Windows 98 than this garbage.

Lol seems this update has broke Vmware as well As for the VMWare issues, Windows Latest reports impacted PCs are hit with the message: “VMware Workstation Pro can’t run on Windows: Check for an updated version of this app that runs on Windows.” But no updated version exists.

and cortana search un-installing the update does fix all the issues well most seems printing will still be broke.
Also reports windows action center breaking and issues with outlook menus as well.

My main gaming machine at home is 1809 and updates are blocked not taking any chances with these bad updates runs flawlessly.

After looking at the machines that stopped booting after update they were all amd started in safemode un-installed video drivers reboot it now boots install newest video drivers and now it boots with no issues.
The non-booting issue seems to be ryzen based cpu only so far it requires and clr bios alter update why not sure had it happen to customers machine again on test bench.

Most of the calls i got the past few days are printing problems from small businesses they print invoices for customers seems the update from 3rd stopped even more printers from printing had to do alot of remote access repairs.

Think of going MAC to not have issues watch this LoL.

That blur is the new DEFAULT with 1903. ;)
Fix save as .reg.

??? Fix is Settings-Personalization-Color-Disable Transparency. No registry hack needed.

I've got a couple of BSOD on-site calls for tomorrow morning and although I haven't read all the links in the thread yet is there a simple solution?

@edit - Boot to safe mode and either remove update or update video drivers per @Galdorf . (?)

Had one today BSOD sad face machine_check_exception...oh ok that is very descriptive. So I ran sfc now awaiting call from client, hopefully not.

I haven't had any non-booters but have had multiple printing problem calls, removing kb4524147 has fixed them. Symptoms have been consistent - can't print from Office apps or browsers but test print works fine - makes it easy to diagnose. Thanks Microsoft.

Interestingly, one system had the symptoms but didn't show any updates between September 23rd and October 10th. Not being able to remove the update specifically, I went into system restore. Looking at restore points there was one created for Windows Update on October 5th, so I rolled back to that restore point and it fixed the printing issue. Anybody know why "view installed updates" wasn't showing me the updates installed on the 5th, even though the system created an automatic restore point for updates and had the update caused issue?
