Has anyone been able to get the older HP laser printers working on Windows 7 64bit? I'm specifically referring to the Laserjet 1300 and older HP laser printers.

The generic print driver that HP offers for 64bit does not work and I have been unable to find another driver.

Anybody know perhaps where I can find a suitable driver or how I can get these printers working with Win 7 64bit?

Any help would be appreciated.

I just set up a Laserjet 1200. All I did was plug it in and let it search Windows update.

Are you sure it's a 64bit problem and not a port configuration issue? What is the problem? Does it work on 32 bit with the same driver and configuration?

I have had great success installing older printers in Windows 7. Have you tried the Windows generic print driver. I used that to get some old epson POS printers working a few months ago. These printers where ancient. They used a parallel to phone line adapter. They worked great after I was done and the restaurant has been using them ever since. I believe that was Windows 7 x86 though. However, the x64 should work being its windows own generic driver. I believe it supports color to.

Thanks for the replies.

Maybe I'm barking up the wrong tree here assuming that the problem is with Win 7 or the HP driver. It's just that Windows keeps telling me it cannot find a suitable driver when I point it to the HP driver, and when I use Windows update, it does not find any suitable drivers.

Printer works fine on Win XP and Win 7 32bit. I will try the generic print driver suggested by vdub12.
