Ive been using this software for a few weeks now, very good stuff. especially with the outlook file recovery and such. Has all the office format repair functions and such. Does a really nice job recovering the files. Anyone else use it?

The downside is its like 1500 dollars.

I gotta wonder if this programs functionality isn't already available to us in all the little free and cheap stuff we already use?.

I used to use Ontrack when I worked for a big name computer shop (not naming) many years ago. Was very efficient but yes cost a hell of a lot. I personally wouldn't fork out that much unless recovery was your bread and butter. Otherwise go for a cheaper (if not free) alternative. :)

I have used Ontrack for about 4 years now and think it's great. Bit pricey yes but has paid for itself over and over so no concern there.

I tried to use a couple of freebies to get a particular outlook file out of a drive with no avail. this was able to do it, and it almost paid for itself in 1 recovery. does seem to take a while tho when its a formated drive.

Ontrack is very good, it's the software used by most forensic recovery labs. It's expensive, but then so is the cost of data loss. It's always worth paying for the right tools.

Other than being illegal, is there a difference between the paid version of OnTrack and the version or UBCD or what which ever CD has OnTrac?

When ever possible I alway use legit software. But I would like to try it first before buying.

I'm not for sure on that. I think they have a trial version of it though. I suppose you could always check the regular bad sites if you just wanted to give it a trial run and then actually purchase it later.

I've gotten much better results with GetDataBack
