G day all

trying to search on a problem I'm having with Outlook (M365 account). I use the unread folder in the favorite to see what needs to be followed up. However since a new laptop it's not updating properly. It is still shown read emails. Even if I use the Isread:no search in the unread folder it shows the read emails, however if I use the isread:no on the inbox it is shows only the unread emails.

I hope that makes sense. I have reinstalled, repaired, removed and reinstalled.

The webmail doesn't show the unread folder so I can't see if the issue is web base.

Can you tell us what email service provider is involved?

I presume the problem is in Outlook 365 (and then it would be helpful to know if you're using Outlook Classic or New Outlook over 365) but it's not at all clear what email service is involved, and that could matter. Also, is this an account being accessed via IMAP or Exchange (I won't even go there for POP3, and really doubt that's involved anyway).

Outlook has an Unread tab above the mailbox column (2 tabs, All and Unread, then further to the right it has By Date or whatever sorting option is selected). This should be your way of listing unread items in the current mailbox.

If you have an actual folder called Unread, which seems likely if you're selecting it in Favourites, then maybe that's created by your email provider (or yourself) and who knows what goes in it?

Unless you're using "Outlook (new)" in which case anything could be happening!

Yep OK, host is M365 (exchange), client is Outlook Classic from the M365 sub.

below is a screenshot of my Outlook screen while in the Unread Mail, yes I have changed the "All" to "Unread" and it makes no difference to the output. It's only become an "issue" since I've changed laptops (not sure if I used the M365 lic or retail on the old one).

Oh, webmail "all" and "unread" works as it should.

I'm getting old, I just want things to work like they use to, lol.

I repeat, that folder doesn't exist... it's a view.

Delete the view and make a new one. Or, you can live with the modern defaults and simply not have it, because it's not there, and hasn't been there since Outlook 2010.

You're asking, how do I fix this?
I'm asking, how does this still exist?

Ahh... it is a search folder

Outlook Classic is dying partially because search in it is bloody busted. You may need to rebuild your PST file's search index, or validate the PST is intact.
