Correction: I'm restoring OUTLOOK EXPRESS data.

DISREGARD THIS PREVIOUS POST:
Is this the default location for the .pst file?

c:\Documents and Settings\Profiles\user name\Local Settings\Application Data

Have a customer who enabled hidden files and folder but can't find the newly created .pst file now that Outlook has been installed. Windows search function not finding .pst either. Has MS changed the default location by any chance?

Anyway the customer is bringing the PC over.

Thanks for the replies. Stop the presses! The customer was telling me "Outlook" but they meant "Outlook Express". So I've been on a wild goose chase here. I'm not even sure if Outlook Express files are encrypted or not. Help me out if you know. The data was recovered off of an unbootable computer (MFT damage). Gotta check my notes.

No they're not.

You'll have to import the dbx files into a new profile probably. then what I normally do is move emails internally within express then delete the 'old' folders

then import through that.
Keep in mind that this customer did not do any kind of formal "export" or "backup" from within Outlook Express before the HD died. They have just the raw data recovery files pulled off the drive. From what I've read you have to import each item individually (address book, emails, account settings, newsgroup data). Correct?

Outlook Express 6

If you have the dbx files then no.

They are all you need. Can you get those?

If memory serves, the outlook express files are saved in a .dbx per folder, so inbox.dbx, deleted.dbx and so on. They are:
C:\documents and settings\user\application data\local settings\microsoft\profiles\randomly named session\outlook express\DBX files are here.

You can also create a new outlook express profile, then quit, overwrite the new dbx's with the old ones.

Copying the thread title to Google gives you the answer.. replcing .pst with express tells you where oe is.. I couldn't imagine being a tech and having to ask people questions and wait for answers that can be had in 10 seconds on Google.
