Hi,
I am putting together all my tools before I start looking for work :)

I used to use ophcrack on a linux bootable usb for password recovery.
However ophcrack is now impossible to find for me as "3" have block all the sites i can find that I could download it from.

Does anyone know of a site where I can get it that my ISP would not have blocked? (I am looking for ophcrack_xp & ophcrack_win7

Also, is there anything better than ophcrack around now?

Thanks

Tony

For windows password recovery you can usually boot onto safe mode and then just remove the password. Alternately, I use UBCD4WIN or Hirens Boot CD which included password programs.

Sardu is a repair tool of the week it includes ophcrack

Hey anglian, three do block certain sites. Change your router/pc DNS to openDNS, problem solved!
Also check your hosts just in case.

I'm a bit confused? ISP blocking sites?

Can you explain more please

When I visit a site like ophcrack.sourceforge.net or piratebay & many others I get a messgae that "Sorry, we were unable to retrieve this web site for you, this site has been defined as hacking / peer to peer"

Stephen, you might want to double-check that claim. SARDU doesn't include anything. It just offers to download it for you. If the source were blocked from a direct DL, it'll probably be block by, well, a different direct DL.

It says the OP lives in the UK. Is that short for Communist UKraine?

Yup, can't download it using sardu from home or the local cafe's with wifi :(

I'm confused. Are you using a mobile dangle to connect to the 3 mobile network.

I wouldn't have thought that your local WiFi cafe are using them. You should use your wireless card to connect to their network. If they do use 3 then find another WiFi hotspot, buy their coffee and download.

Alternatively you could change your mobile phone provider.

I am using a 3 dongle at the moment, as waiting for broadband (just moved home)
My cafe, is cafe nero, they use "The cloud networks" and I am connected directly to them, but still a bunch of sites are blocked.
Not sure if there is anywhere else locally that has free wifi. Been walking around with my iphone lokking but cant see anything.

Now I'm even more confused. You're running a repair business using a mobile network for your business? How do you get a customer's computer fully updated? Even with WSUS there's always a whack of most-recent updates.

Personally id move to another ISP, not sure what alternatives you have but surely you can find one that doesnt censor.

Using a proxy might help though

You're going to need to get passed whatever censorship is going on with your ISP. Best choice is to get a new one ASAP. Trying to run a computer repair business when your ISP is blocking access to legitimate software tools would be crippling.

For now, though, you need a temporary workaround. Either a ssh tunneling setup through a cheapie virtual private server in the USA, or a VPN (virtual private network) would do the trick. If your ISP is simply blocking domain names, you might try switching your DNS to Google's public DNS service.

Hi,

Thanks for all your answers

I haven't actually started trading yet, so it is not such an issue right now.
Just trying to get all the software organised, tested and onto USB sticks, along with designing my website, making biz cards, flyers etc. You know how it is.....

I should have broadband installed next week which will make things easier.
