Patch My PC Just won't run

Hi All,

I have a client's computer running Windows 7 x64 SP1. EVERYTHING works flawlessly on the machine, except for Patch My PC just won't run. It simply starts and then quits. I just don't understand it as it runs on 99.999% of the computers I run it on without issue.

Steps to reproduce: double-click on patch my pc "Patch my PC has stopped working" error comes up and gone. I've tried it in a different folder, safe boot, etc.

An event 1001 is generated in the event log:

I have tried to Google it and post to the Patch My PC forums, but I haven't been able to find a solution. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Funny you should mention this. Yes! And have even uninstalled using the .NET uninstaller and re installing 3.5 from the control panel. Just finished and rebooted, same result ARGH

I think Silverleaf may be onto something. I seem to remember this happening to me just a handful of times, and I think after I ran Windows Updates it finally worked.

Every update from Windows Update has been installed I'm afraid Going to re-check in the morning!

I would guess it's the .NET issue, then. Let us know what happens--I'm curious.

All Windows updates installed. It must be a .NET error, but now I have uninstalled and reinstalled all .NET, how is it still not working?

Do you know a way to test each .net framework? (Goggling now..) supposed to be delivering computer to client today

Checked the registry, confirmed .NET Framework 3.5 is isntalled and up to SP1

Forgot to mention, I have already done a sfc /scannow with no errors found.

Edit: Kies, another program that uses .Net that I have seen cause issues, is working just fine.

As a quick possible fix, how about using ninite instead of patch. Just for now?
