I have a dv5 in front of me that has an issue.
Customer states that they were on facebook and then closed the lid on the computer, came back later and now the problem is here.
Basically when you turn it on, you can hear the fans running and you can see the lights above the keyboard are all on but there is nothing on the screen whatsoever..
The caps lock and num lock lights are flashing at me, at the same time, over and over again..
I have tried to look up what it means but I am not really getting anywhere..

I have tried re seating the ram as well as used a different stick altogether.

I have also hard reset it and still get the same issue. When I leave the ram out completely it does the exact same thing....
there are no beeps or other sounds coming from it.

suggestions?

I took a look at that earlier and saw that it stops at LED BLink 6 times, but mine dont stop they just keep going until I power it off..

So it doesnt stop after say, 3 cycles, it just keeps going and going

hp codes

This is a link to dv7 codes, they may be the same for the dv5.

One other link that helped with a different problem but might be the reset you need is this. Scroll down to the post from AnonymousHelp. The important part is the part about bridging the triangle shaped solder points.

Take out the battery. Unplug the mains. Hold the power button for 30 sec. Plug in the mains - try to switch on. If it works great, if not no harm done. They sometimes get stuck in hibernation mode and won't wake up.

Ok it just dawned on me about something...let me know what you think.

Ok when it flashes, the lights flash once, then there is about 4-5 seconds before they flash again, and this interval repeats. According to the chart, "1 flash" means that its the CPU problem..

So before I order another motherboard, does anyone with experience on these things consider this a "1 flash" or just a continuation of flashes..

OF COURSE, hp doesnt say how long between the flashes, it just says that they are in a sequence.
