In this link it has a recommended testing procedure http://www.technibble.com/forums/showthread.php?t=37192&highlight=system+stability+tester

Line three says: "3. After each memtest, run a MOBO, CPU, GPU test. I use PC Doctor."

What would you do on a "shoestring" to do these hardware tests (via inexpensive tester, USB drive or CD)?

A few I've found so far are:
CPU: Hiren's -> "S&M Stress Test 1.9.1" for CPU testing
GPU: Ubuntu -> System > Administrator > System Testing
PCI & AGP bus: Hirens -> "Craig Hart's PCI+AGP bus sniffer" (anyone have experience catching errors with this one?)

Personally, we only have one USB Key for PC Doctor and we do around 100 repairs a month. The Motherboard, CPU and GPU tests do not take that long at all, so 1 is enough for us. Also, if you talk to a rep and tell them that you only want the USB and not everything else, you can talk them down on the price. I got mine for like $200.

Tried calling pc-doctor today to get the usb only and the gal was very adamant about not selling just that. Told her it was all I wanted and she said i couldn't use it with out the software that comes with the package which was 329.00 I think she said but she would give me a discount to 299.00. I think she was just trying to resell me but I will try again in a few weeks when I am ready to purchase and see what they say.

You do need the CDs that come with it, but you do not need the other crap. Either way, keep pressing in, they will eventually break.

I have been working on them for a bit in order to get a discount for the Association but they are sticking with 10% which to me is not good enough...But, will continue to push.

Thanks for trying! Maybe they'll be more receptive if they know some other techs will buy if the price is right?
