Hey, I'm not a web-expert like some here, but would it work to set the permissions on the hosted DEPS files to Read-only? Would that prevent them from being overwritten by accident?

Usually the first thing I do is DELETE the fresh DEBS files from the install archive, and then proceed. I didnt do that on this occasion though (duh!)
Yeah some sort of installer package would be awesome. The updates are really fiddly to add. Thinking particularly about Dan's experience, above: 3 hours to get it updated is significantly laborious, and if something goes wrong on a standard install because of human error, that can also be very time consuming.
Ditto. Delete the DEPS and the logos... usually I got that part right just got distracted and somehow included the backup DB in the upload. I was expecting to have to re-do the last day's work but Godaddy must have backed it up at the right moment.
I ran all the DB update scripts. I also manually updated the new deps.php file because it had new entries in it. Also, had a few I no longer needed I found out. Namely the claimstatus stuff.
I then uploaded all the new 1.26 stuff. Overwrote my logos, had to fix that.
Uploade dmy newly edited deps.php and it was working.
Just an FYI on myself and PCRT: I'm not on the fence about purchasing; I've cocked the hammer and the safety's been off for quite some time. Just waiting for the books to say it's okay.
Some sort, yes. The short short version is that we're a HUGE hacker-/maker-space, where, with a membership, you're free to pursue your geeky hobbies, many of which may be impossible, impractical, or even illegal at home. Check out some of our videos on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/user/thegeekgroup, and if you look for the ones with Computers Not Candy, you'll see one of our latest projects directly involving my department.
Based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, The Geek Group provides access to science, technology, engineering and math by developing programming and facilities for individuals and institutions to learn, explore, innovate and play at an independent pace according to their needs.
My department is one of several within the Leonard Street facility. I am responsible for not only the maintenance of computer systems, or, more formally, Computer & Information Technology (CIT) within our building -- almost every department depends upon computers to some degree -- but I also offer refurbished computers and repairs to the public. I've only been at this post for a little over three months, but it's easily the best job I've ever had.
