PCI Simple Communication Controller? HELP!

Bought a used system from a reputable dealer that I've gone to for years and I replaced the 15GB hard drive with a 60GB. After installing W2K, I get two messages: one is for the PCI Simple Communications Controller and the other one is for the Ethernet Controller.

I've just spent two hours searching Google/Microsoft and a host of other sites with no luck. I'm at my wits end and before I pull the rest of my hair out, would someone be so kind as to tell me how to resolve this issue? I've also tried to find the bios driver, but haven't been successful with that either. The bios is Phoenix 4.06 version 2.02. I will check back in the a.m.; just too tired to keep at it tonight. Thanks to everybody/anybody that can help with this!

Assuming the PCI Simple Communications Driver and Ethernet controllers are onboard devices (meaning, you have no network cards and such in the PCI slots) your first point of call would be to visit the motherboard manufacturers site. Usually the brand and model number is written on the motherboard, often between the CPU and the RAM.
For example, mine says ASUS P5K-E/Wifi-AP, so I'd visit the Asus site and find drivers for the "ASUS P5K-E/Wifi-AP". Grab all the drivers that the site says yours needs for Windows 2000 and you should be able to fix it. Keep in mind, with Windows 2000 being an older operating system, there may not be any drivers for your motherboard under Windows 2000.

Personally, I think any pc tech with hair left hasn't been doing this stuff long enough.

Try the latest Intel driver for your board.

HWInfo does a good job of MD identification.

I often just look at the chips and if I see RealTek for example is next to the audio output ports I know that's the audio etc. Mainly I do this for Raid controllers.

errors after downloading MB drivers

Found the driver for the MB. The first time I rebooted with the disk in, I got invalid system disk. I re-formatted the disk, unzipped the files again. This time I get NTLDR not found. I'm getting the drivers from Driverguide.com and I've tried several and get the same result. What next?

Chip drivers didn't help

Follow advice to re-install chip drivers; received message that the OS supports the chipset on the MB. States no updates are needed. Now what? Take the system back?

Install/reinstall the sound card drivers. I have seen that clear up the PCI Simple Communications issue several times.

Errr... have you had any experience installing drivers? You don't want to boot off the driver disk. You want to copy the drivers to a folder or to a floppy, then go into device manager (double-click "System" from the control panel) and remove the two unknown devices by highlighting them and pressing "delete". Then put your driver disk in and when it asks you where the drivers are located browse to your disk and go from there. Rebooting off a driver disk isn't going to do you any good.
