This may be a silly question but it's never happened to me before so...

I'm running WSUS Offline to update a Windows 7 HP SP1 machine but it's been stuck at the point you'll see in the picture below for over a day now.

I clicked on the Start button for something and noticed the little shield that Windows puts on the Shut Down button when updates are waiting to be installed, so my first question is, could that have something to do with the lack of activity from WSUS and secondly, if I just reboot the machine and let it do whatever updates it thinks are waiting, will anything bad happen due to it not being an automatic recall from WSUS?

Another question has just presented itself - if it is something to do with it, why has WSUS not done an auto reboot like it should?

For the last few months Windows 7 has been presenting updates within minutes of a reinstall. I would just reboot it and let it install what it's done so far, then connect it to the 'net and let it find its own way from there.
Nothing bad will happen if you reboot it now, just let it do it's thing until it restarts.

Just a personal observation....I would get rid of (all) Avast from the system. There are plenty of threads on the forum with regard to computers not booting because of Avast.
I myself have had plenty! :(

If @PaulTech is correct on the KB's (Too lazy to check lol), then he's right. Those updates will speed things along handily.

Another way to do this is simply reboot the machine after the WSUS update gets 'stuck'. It just won't automatically reboot because the install package doesn't properly terminate and WSUS thinks it's still working, but for me, the updates succeed. I find it works best if you DO NOT hook up Windows 7 to a network connection at all. I skip the .NET and optional "checkmark" items until the end of the first 3-4 batches of 1-3 updates. Network the machine and finish it up online.
