Quick guide on building *nix based Unifi Controller at RackSpace

In my book any internet facing service absolutely must have a cert. The decision is whether it should be self-signed or using a CA such as Thawte. My position has always been if the FQDN is used purely for internal use a self-signed cert is fine. If it's public then a CA generated cert must be used.

Wow this came at just the right time. Thanks.
Is a SSL (https) cert that important for this VPS?

Yeah good to have, secure the logins. Not one in the screenie that was a quick "temp server" I built just for the purpose of providing the above screenshots. If you don't want to use one....I really don't see a problem TBH. It's only you using it...you don't have clients logging in so there's no need for giving them a warm 'n fuzzy like a bank login.

Thanks for clearing that up. Much appreciated.

I goofed and posted the guide in this subforum as a thread, instead of posting it as an article on the Resource page. So this thread will disappear, the new one is up with a link to here.
Thanks to the TN crew for copying it over.
And any who rated this current thread...please re-rate over on the actual post in the Resources section.
