Hi All,

Just setup a new laptop for a client. She has a HP L7780 network (wired) printer. The printer worked great with the laptop until it came time to print the cheque (of course!)

The client connects to her office via RDP to use Simply accounting to print cheques. We discovered that the print would start, and then stop about 1/4 of the way down the page. I tested with a notepad document and the same thing happened. I tried to print from her other laptop using RDP -- same thing, only 1/4 of the page printed. Then we decided to use another brother printer -- printed the cheque and all other files fully no problem via RDC! So the issue appears to be with the redirected HP.

The latest drivers are installed locally, and all LOCAL printing prints flawlessly. She said it worked perfectly before so I have to fix it. Has anybody ever seen this before? It seems like it would be something on the RDP server side, I believe they are using server 2008.

The print driver has to match EXACTLY to what's on the server. You could also try switching to RDS Easy Print driver (Terminal Services Easy Print).

Hmmm, I think that the server "redirects" it and the drivers are installed from the RDC client to the server for the redirection to happen? I'm really not sure on this but I'm sure the drivers would have to match as you say, otherwise it wouldn't work.

I know you have the option from mstsc to chose whether or not you want the local printer to be available in the remote session.

Will look into Terminal Services Easy Print, thank-you!

From her laptop have her run a print job but have it print to file. Then check this print file to see if it has issues. We want to rule out a printer setting that might have gotten changed or the driver on the printer.

Check your spooling options also.

Best Regards,

coffee

It redirects the device, but not the driver :) Any luck on this?

^This. There are also many documents issues with HP printer drivers running in terminal services. We've had good luck with HP's universal driver as well as easy print. There are also some inexpensive 3rd party utilities available for printer redirection.
To troubleshoot a driver issue, have her print to a document writer such as CutePDF.
