I all,

I have a few questions about diagnostic utilities.

I have used Diagnostic utilities like PC Wizard and Sandra Pro to test computer hardware. For Dell systems i obviously use the diagnostic utility included with the system.

1. Does anyone recommend any other diagnostic utilities?

2. Can the Dell diagnostic utility be used on any dell or on dell system?

I use quicktech from http://www.uxd.com/qtpro.shtml. Have used it for about 12 years and like it the best.

I've used this in the past and find it to be an excellent product. I was actually looking at purchasing it last week. I'm very disappointed in uxds support though. I've filled in the contact form on their site requesting purchase details and also sent them a couple of emails with no response. If they can't answer a pre-sales question in a week, what is their tech support like?

Thanks for the replies guys. Keep them coming!:)

BTW, i downloaded and created a bootable CD of the latest DELL Diagnostic Utility. I tried it on several non-Dell systems and it seems to work quite well and it's FREE!

I'll take a look at this "QuickTech" app. in the mean time although Fixedathome.com's comment about their supposedly bad support does give cause for concern.

It was UXD Europe who I contacted so maybe UXD US will be more on the ball! It would be a real shame as the product itself is great. Another similar app is Microscope from micro2000. It does the same kind of tests as Quicktech. I do actually own an older version of this from about 2003 and it was great back then. Not sure how well it has aged though.

I use Eurosoft PC Check. I think it's one of the easier products to use, and their support staff actually responds to calls and e-mails.
Also, free version upgrades for a year after purchase.

Not necessary Methical,

You can just go to dell's site and search for "CW1340A0.exe" then click on the "Dell 32 Bit Diagnostics (Graphical User Interface version), A1340A0" link.

Download the "CW1340A0.exe" file, run, then select the option to create a bootable cd. :D

After some poking around, i discovered that this file is the latest diagnostic utility they have. They have a whole bunch of older ones also.

Same thing here, i gave up on them after 3 weeks of emailing them.

Amazingly I've finally had a response..I knew it wouldn't be cheap but it's way out of my budget. I was interested in the Professional Kit which is the Quicktech Pro USB and the P.H.D PCI 2 diag card(This thing does much more than a post card). Total cost £1617.. The Quicktech Pro USB alone is £628.

Now if I was running a company with several employees it may well be worth the money but I can't justify that kind of outlay for just me.
