I have a mac in shop that needs some photos recovered but not very knowledgeable when it comes to mac data recovery options. What are some recommended free and pay version of software to use?

Thanks in advance

Before I can recommend a possible solution, can you answer these questions?

1. What is the reason why you need to recover the photos? Deleted, formatted, failed drive, etc?

2. Did you get a full sector-by-sector clone with which you are now working with?

3. What file system is on the client drive?

4. Do you plan to recover the data via Windows, Mac OS or Linux?

Customer deleted files ("on accident").

Clone done

HFS assuming since it's mac

We can recover using any OS we have a dual boot bench machine for windows/linux or we can use the client mac

+1 on the DR3. That being said I've been using R-Studio R-Tools, M$ version, for years. That being said they have come out with a OS X version. I've not used it but I would assume that the functionality is the same. You can download the trial, run it on the media. If you like it you can then purchase the license and activate it so you don't loose the scan info.

For OSS testdisk has been around for years. gpartd also works but that is *nix only. You can go to cgsecurity.org to download testdisk as well a photorec. Never used photorec but many seem to like it. Both apps run in Windoze as well as OS X.

We have RS for Mac and it's okay but just like the PC version, it gets back too many bad RAW files (and since this is for deleted files, RAW is best shot probably). DR3 does a better job for deleted files especially, since it can scan just free scan (something RS cannot do).

It's not same as other similar tool but outstanding and advanced in helping with dealing with deleted data, photos and other lost situations.
It's a free mac software for getting lost mac files back with easy operating steps. easeus data recover wizard for mac free is a brilliant helper for new mac users.

Dude thats 4/8 posts where you plug EASEUS products.

Your 'contributions' here are starting to look very spammy.

Are you even a tech?

Where's your intro?

I think you are in the wrong place, mate.

i found Data Rescue 3 to be the best at actually recovering useful files last time I had to do A recovery, disk drill was probably the second best in my opinion

Though, there are many reliable data recovery software to regain Mac data but I recovered my lost data back from formatted drive upto 2 TB with Stellar Phoenix Mac Data Recovery software. One thing which I liked in this software the most is scanning the Mac drive completely bit by bit in Full Scan option.

You seem to be hell bent on pushing Stellar products. Have you posted about anything else?
