Remote Support Pricing 2015

For home users we charge $85 /hr. Half hour minimum, then 15 minute increments.

We used to do 15 minute increments after the hour. Then the boss went to 30. No complaints from customers, and slightly more money. I was finding that if I billed for say an hour 45, then it would roll over that 15 minute marker while I was waiting for payment. Doing half hour increments doesn't run into that problem. Plus we can always take 15 minutes off if they complain about the price.

Remote support...for quick questions (more than a yes or no) from existing clients, I charge a remote fee of $35 for each 15 minute increment. Two minutes costs the same as 15. I add up the quarter hours and bill at the end of the month or the next time I visit them I add it to the bill. For more extensive remote sessions, I charge my usual hourly rate for them, either $95 or $110, depending upon the client.

Project pricing...I try my best to estimate time it will take and give them that estimate. However, I also state in the proposal that "actual time will be billed." In practice, if it's close (plus or minus and hour) to what I estimated, I'll charge that. If not, it's actual time, plus of course materials.

I had been charging $100/hr for on site with a 45 minute minimum, and $80/hr remote with a 15 minute minimum. Recently decided to make it the same rate, $100/hr either way, while keeping the lower minimum on remote as it saves me the trip. No complaints on the price change so far, as the remote service usually gets completed sooner than I can schedule onsite service.
