On a mission to find out how Reset a Microsoft account on Windows 10 locally. I know you can reset it through the customers email but this is not my mission. Ive searched everywhere even here (unless i missed something) to find out how. there has to be a way, its windows com-on lol... Any help would be appreciated

guess i missed that one. is there a utility anyone knows of that will do this. this method takes awhile. time is always a factor..

That doesn't reset reset an MS account. It just walks through the creation of a new admin account on the computer, expecting that new account to be used to access the files in the old account. The old account is still technically inaccessible, but now you can at least copy the files out of it.

The short answer is you can't do it. An "online" MS account can't be reset in isolation. You have to follow the online process.

It was my understanding from the problem that the password reset was on a local account. Therefore about step 9 appears to be the way to reset the local password. As for the password not being local I can understand that its not possible. However, I think from what I take away from the article is that you are basically creating a new admin account and then using that account to change the password of the user:

net user<username><password>

I can see that. But my different understanding comes from this sentence: "I know you can reset it through the customers email but this is not my mission." You can't reset a local account through email.

Not possible to reset a Microsoft account locally... but this may interest you.

We use this software - http://www.top-password.com/reset-windows-password.html
It allows you to temporarily bypass Windows authentication. You can type anything as the password and it will accept... but doesn't persist after a reboot. I also think it fails if you connect to the internet as authentication will go through Microsoft servers rather than local.

Once you are logged into the account you can convert to a local account... again just type anything you want as the old password and it accepts.

Guide here - http://www.top-password.com/guide/bypass-windows-password.html

PS.
This doesn't work 100% of the time on W10. Id say maybe 30% of machines it fails and won't bypass the password. Still worth a shot though as potentially saves a lot of time compared to creating a new profile, transferring data and settings etc.
