Could do with some urgent help on this one!

Client called me yesterday to tell me that the two users using Sage 50 accounts are not looking at the same data. Checking their data paths they both had local ones and not the network ones I'd set up many months ago. Turns out they upgraded to Sage Accounts 2015 and during that it looks like it got messed up.

So I go onto the bookkeepers PC, backup the company, delete it and create a new one from the backup but this time with the data on the server. In the meantime I also install the Sage Data Service on the server and check its services are running.

This works fine and the company is restored, pointing at the right location etc. However overnight it's stopped working. Apparently there was a problem with a backup on the server and the manager saw that DNS was using lots of CPU and rebooted it. So either that reboot or the problem might be implicated.

So now I cannot get the PC to connect to the Sage Data Service on the server. I've used the SDS Manager on the PC and it won't connect. Obviously this means Sage doesn't work now. I've tried adding the recommended ports to the server firewall and the PC firewall. I've tried turning both firewalls off. No dice.

Also tried reinstalling the SDS.

I had them contact Sage. They can't get it working and say that "something is blocking the data service and it's your server's fault".

Any ideas?

Since you mentioned "DNS"....I'd be looking at how the servers are seen by the workstation, assuming this is active directory...and that the workstations should be using the DC servers LAN IP for DNS. So I'm wondering if name resolution is an issue here, as some ODBC relies heavily on it working properly.

Try disabling ipv6 on the clients having issues connecting. Had a similar issue last week and found a knowledgebase article saying it's a known issue. It fixed the problem for me.
