Hi,

We have a Samsung R60 plus laptop in at the minute. It constantly flicks from charging to not charging.

We have tried it without the battery, it turns on for about 10 seconds then turns off as if the power has been removed. We have also tried a new ac adapter which just gives the same result as the customers.

The dc jack seems to be ok as it charges up fine when the laptop is powered off.

Any ideas what is causing this?

Thanks guys

Have you pulled all devices out of system (cdrom, WiFi, hdd, etc)?
Do you get the BIOS loading screen or is it a black screen for the 10 sec?

Yes I have tried booting with only the necessary devices in and its the same.

Sorry I should have elaborated a little, it boots into windows fully as long as there is power in the battery, and it is constantly flicking between plugged in and not plugged in.

Sounds like a bad charging circuit to me (probably on the motherboard, as opposed to a separate daughter board).

Samsung had a recall on their batteries doing this, would check into that before checking anything else.

It turns on for a few seconds without the battery in and then turns off. Definitely looks like a charging circuit problem.

As far as I am aware they don't have a daughter board, the jack and the charging circuit is all on the main board.

The guy doesn't want to pay for a motherboard repair,

Thanks for all the help dudes :D

Seems the onboard power module problem to me as well.

Try the following to discharge and reset the laptop first.

Please remove all removable parts like DVD, exteral USB device(if any), remove battery and unplug the AC adapter, then press the power button over 15 seconds do not let go.
Then, connect the AC adapter only without the battery and power on the laptop again.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply Bill, I have tried this and the results were the same, thanks for the suggestion I will add this to my diagnostic procedure in the future.
